PCB Through-Hole Vibration Motor Series

Vybronics’ PCB-mounted through-hole (PCBTH) vibration motors have distinct advantages and disadvantages when compared with SMD/SMT reflow vibration motors. Engineers normally consider using PCBTH only when SMD motor types fail to generate enough vibration force for their application. PCBTH motors are physically larger and can generate far larger G-forces than any SMD reflow vibration motor. SMD reflow motors are limited in their size due to the heatsink effect, making them difficult to reflow solder using a standard reflow temperature profile. There are also issues with large SMD motor failing drop tests. One disadvantage of using PCBTH is that a secondary soldering operation is needed, typically a selective soldering system or hand soldering.

Vybronics’ through-hole vibration motors are available with through-hole pin lengths of 1.6 mm, 2.0 mm, or 3.2 mm.

At 4.6 mm, the VZ4KC1B1051202 has the smallest diameter of any PCBTH offered. It generates 1.3 G_RMS at 3 V_DC. The VZ7AL2B1692612 is Vybronics' largest PCBTH vibration motor and generates 7.1 G_RMS at 3 V_DC.
