Now to the different trigger modes; several trigger sources are available for the RL78 AD converter. The easiest is the software trigger, where a software instruction starts the AD converter in continuous or single shot mode. The second possibility is a hardware trigger; where the AD converter is set up in “operation wait mode” and a trigger from the Real Time Counter, Interval Timer or a Timer Array Unit channel can start the AD converter, enabling sampling of an analog signal at dedicated time intervals.
