In summary, an Intelligent Power Switch (IPS) is a power MOS with some protections and diagnostics about the possible fault conditions of the switch (like over temperature, over current, under voltage, etc.). They are designed for harsh environments and have the capability to drive any kind of load. Finally, IPSs have many features including: internally or externally limited output current, short-circuit and over temperature protection, no simultaneous restart in over temperature incidents, open load detection in ON/OFF state based on what component is being used, EMC compliance and the outputs can be paralleled.
