Often times a cable assembly will only have a connector on one end. This is often done so that one end can be soldered directly into the product. In these cases cables are most often terminated by stripping away the wire’s insulation, and then coating the exposed copper wire with a layer of tin. The tin prevents the wire’s strands from fraying apart or corroding and allows for easy soldering. Sometimes the wire is ended with a clean, or blunt, cut. This is typically done when more control of the stripping and tinning process is wanted.
