AVX Auto series varistors offer significant electrical features in transportation based circuitry. MLVs are a high reliability device with failure rates so low that they are used in a variety of spacecraft. As previously stated these devices have both load dump and jump start capabilities and have the ability to handle large inrush currents due to their multiple electrode parallel configuration. The parallel electrodes also mean that transients are dissipated over a large volume which results in a multi-strike transient ability. Since the devices are surface mount they exhibit a much lower inductance than packaged silicon TVS devices. Lower inductance translates into a faster turn on time.
