TLS secures the transmission between two end points, typically the client and server. There can be any number of routes or hops between the client and server as shown in the diagram on this slide. It is possible, and often the case, that from one packet to the next the actual routing is different, therefore it will go through different router and a different path for each packet. Each router can only see encrypted content and the routing information for each one of the packets.
