Total noise is the combination of all uncorrelated noise sources and can be calculated by the root sum square method. Each term is squared, added, and the square root of the total is taken. If one noise source is three times larger than another, the smaller noise sources can be disregarded. To reduce the effect of the amplifier noise on other components in the system, the output of the amplifier can be filtered. The amplifier noise may occupy a very wide bandwidth, but a band pass, low pass, or high pass filter may be used to remove the unwanted noise.
