Amplifiers can be used for many applications, but their primary use is to simply increase the amplitude of an AC or DC signal. They can also be used to buffer signals. Amplifiers have high input impedance and low output impedance, which means they do not load a source (like a sensor) and can drive a changing load. One application for this is in driving ADCs. When an ADC is sampling the input signal the input impedance changes. This changing impedance can affect the accuracy of a sensor. By using an amplifier, the accuracy of a sensor can be preserved.
