Image of Digi International's Xbee SX 868 RF modules, ADI's ADF7023 Trancievers, and Si Labs' EFM32 Microcontrollers Digi International’s XBee SX 868 series of radio frequency (RF) modules operates in the 863 MHz to 870 MHz range specifically designed for Europe. These modules have ultra-low current consumption of 1.8 µA for sleep, 40 mA for receive mode, and 55 mA in transmit mode. The XBee SX 868 series is available in two module options, as well as a development kit. The XB8X-DMUS-001 comes with a U.FL connector whereas the XB8X-DMRS-001 comes with an RF pad. The development kit is part number XK8X-DMS-0. These modules use Analog Devices’ ADF7023 transceiver and Silicon Labs’ EFM32LG230F256 ARM® Cortex® M3 microprocessor.

ADI’s ADF7023 is a high performance, low power, ISM band transceiver that can support frequencies of 431 MHz to 464 MHz and 862 MHz to 928 MHz. This transceiver is powered by a 2.2 V to 3.6 V supply and comes in 32-pin WFQFN package. ADF7023 is ideal for IEEE 802.15.4g applications. Si Labs' EFM32LG230F256 is a 32-bit, 48 MHz Cortex microcontroller (MCU) from the Leopard Gecko family. This MCU has a variety of connectivity options that include I2C, IrDA, SmartCard, SPI, and UART/USART. The device is available in a 64-QFN (9 mm x 9 mm) package. These devices have a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and are perfect for Internet of Things (IoT) world of smart metering, cities, and home, industrial, and retail automation applications.
