In summary, an ambient light sensor measures the amount of light in an environment. The digital ambient light sensor sees the environment the way the human eye sees the environment, meaning it responds very well to green light. It does not respond under ultraviolet light or infrared light. A digital ambient light sensor takes the light as an input and converts it to the digital domain. This sensor consists of the special sensor, ADCs, and I2C communication. It can be used to control the brightness of a portable device in order to save power or to increase the brightness in order to see the screen better in bright conditions. The ALS can also be used in digital light management systems, for building automation.
