Thermal shutdown is to protect the device from catastrophic damage resulting from high power dissipation. A combination of programming high output currents or exposure to high operating temperatures will invoke this shutdown. Once this is tripped the device will return to operation based on the hysteresis of the thermal shutdown circuit. Normally the device will need to cool 10 to 20 degrees before operations resume. Consider possible power dissipation and package limitations to remain in a safe region.
