Not only does Amphenol offer the rugged RJ45 mounted on a PCB with the addition of a cable header (discussed earlier), they also offer this same combination with the addition of a Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS). The TVS device is useful for protection against very fast and often damaging voltage spikes. These voltage spikes or surges can be caused by lightning, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and electrical fast transients (EFT).
